Eventful Week Poem by Ravinder Kumar Soni

Eventful Week

Beneath the large banyan tree, I sat
Reminiscing on certain ordinary events of the past week,
An eventful week it was
When on Sunday,
I saw the sun climb and climb up to the zenith
And slowly fall back without a hitch into the ocean from where it arose;
On Monday,
I saw the wind rush forcefully forward to apply its strength to bend
And break a Casurina stem that emitted a loud screech;
On Tuesday,
I felt my feet wobble on the white sand of the Marina Beach
As though the earth was slipping away from me,
On Wednesday,
The darkness of the night did painfully pale
While confronting the heat of the sun, allowed the day to begin its chores,
On Thursday,
I saw and heard, the fire sizzle and slowly burn the wood-logs
Stored in a tunnel to produce charcoal,
On Friday,
I saw many beggars line up at the Laxminarain temple
With their arms and palms fully extended seeking alms,
And, finally on Saturday,
I sat relaxed on my favourite bench beneath the banyan tree
Surrounded by colourful flower beds
Eager to read the events of the past week.
What did I gain?
I wondered.
It made me worry and laugh.
