Evolutionary Days Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Evolutionary Days

Few are the choices,
Left from which to choose.
Self examination.
Judgement to pass it.
And attitude shown to others.
Now given time.
More than ever before to find.

Poverty policies put in place.
To not call that racism,
But just as effective...
As an institutional keeping,
Targeted people easier...
To economically trace.
That choice to make,
Has surfaced to expose...
The ones who have enjoyed,
Their feeding on greed.
As that way of life,
Has been made to fade.
And fast to these to go away.

Few are the choices,
Left from which to choose.
A virus, a pandemic...
And an enforced kept 'social distance',
Has done this.
Leaving 'entitlement receivers',
Not doing as much as they wish...
To miss,
These 'evolutionary' days.

People are demanding their 'normalcy',
Back to where that was to mean.
Finding to go back it won't be there.
Neither will their entitlement ways.
Shown to express their bigotry.
And deceiving smiles,
Kept to feel better about themselves.

Few are the choices,
Left from which to choose.
And not one to pick from...
Will leave anyone unchanged.
To recognize a way of life,
Of self indulgence, selfishness and greed...
Will be reminisced how quick,
What has been done...
To others to take for granted.
Can switch places overnight.
As if...
The doing of it done,
Was meant to be experienced.

And...
This done having nothing to do,
With political or religious...
Affiliations to use to accuse or blame.
Or play those 'head games' gone to choose.
