Eyes Wide Open Poem by Rhonda Middleton

Eyes Wide Open

Her eyes are wide open but she's afraid to see
Broken hearts and broken dreams

Living in fear and under his control
Always afraid of the one without a soul
She has suffered long enough
Threats, violence, the ugly stuff

She has been judge by all and heard by none
Been through the courts of the incompetent ones
Don't break her down, she's already there
Don't judge her, she's in despair

Her cries have fallen on deaf ears
Her pain unfelt to everyone near
Her beauty offers a great disguise
No one saw how she bled on the inside

Her eyes are wide open; she has seen
Broken hearts and broken dreams
