Facing Mirrors Poem by Lauren Harper

Facing Mirrors

Rating: 4.5

You look in the mirror,
Contorting in disgust with what you see.
So you decide to no longer eat.

One week goes by.
There is progress,
But not enough.

The next comes and goes,
And now you can see hipbones.
But its still not enough you know.

All too soon it has become an addiction.
'Just one less trip to the kitchen,
Then i'll fit their description.'

One more meal missed,
Until something goes amiss.
You become too weak to slip through the darkness of abyss.

Her heart began to retract,
As her eyes lulled back,
For this would be it's final act.

Nothing was left,
After the theft,
Of a poor girls mind.

What's sad to see,
And hard to know,
It is surly a path to which any girl could go.
