False Charmers Poem by Francis Duggan

False Charmers

Though con people use it for to mask their guile
People do seem to warm to the one who can smile
But the genuine smilers are becoming rare
Of stories of charming con-men we are all too aware
Like the gullible widow who lives on our street
She did think her insurance agent was rather sweet
She invested in his bogus company in quite a big way
At least ten thousand dollars those who know her do say
Though he was not an insurance agent at all
For the charm in his smile she was one who did fall
His type are abundant they are everywhere
There are millions of them in the big World out there
False charmers are many they never were few
But what I'm telling you here is not anything new.
