Familiar Friends Poem by Jo R. Escher

Familiar Friends

Seasons of time hang in tender balance
In consenting submission to wither and fade
Light and darkness barter hide and seek
Butterfly, how amazing your procession

I have been tricked by the forest
And soothed by the trees
A lullaby of numbness has protected well
Those days have abandoned me now

Brilliant and blinding this magic
My eyes awakened to a gentle snow
Deeply touching my wounds that weep
The purity of white bleeds crimson red

Fear haunts my dreams and awakens my sleep
Whispering acts of desperation and loss
Entrapment and emotions take my breath
I refuse deaths hand and blackmail my own

Familiar, like yesterday, I know this feeling
These lessons, my teachers, you come
You tempt my trust and question my faith
You bring a price, how much this time
