I Remember Poem by Jo R. Escher

I Remember

To find one in the stillness when evening light has faded away

Searching out the bittersweet hallways of blessed peace

Carefully lain a veil of memory across these worn stones of time

Seconds counted in silence as no rest will come to thee this night

A gentle breeze embraces the sunset as it falls upon my face

The words of known voices stir emotion like embers of a forgotten fire

Helplessness is the dance of surrender that has torn away my soul

Fingertips of past moments hold prisoner the pleasure of tomorrow

Special days marked in empty chairs surrounding empty places

Leaves rustle as I tread these haunted grounds of past lives

Words spoken in rebounding silence that embrace each breath

Seasons turn into endless longing of times forgotten most

I wait here... watching time pass before me in slow motion

The scenes fill with characters each taking their rightful places

I remember...the sounds, the scents, the sights, the moments shared

Tears fill my eyes as my soul weeps

I grieve...
