Family! Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Family!

In Family

In family we share a common cosmic bond.
From brother to brother, sister to brother
Father and mother to daughter and son
We are more alike than we may think.
That stubborn streak or sarcastic tongue
A love for music, a curiosity, a dream or two
Worrisome or carefree we all share the to and fro.
And yes in common we share a wall as well
We all do, not just me and not just you.

From the same clay we were brought to be
Don't dwell upon the differences
They define us and our uniqueness is us
Some laugh louder but we all still do
Some worry longer but we all still do
Never fear the difference, embrace it
What makes us family binds much deeper
In a globe teeming with billions
If cast adrift around the globe we would long
For the familiar faces of our humble home.

because i was just rereading it i suppose, and thinking of all americans as family, my poem titled, listening to genius loves company on christmas morning 2004 comes quickly to mind. and thinking of all humans as family, the dna between us only differs by something between one tenth and six tenths of a percent. i'm fascinated by what dna tells us about our origins, and the genesis 2 story of all of us having common ancestors is, it turns out, not far off. -glen
