what are our children but a new way of life,
Every moment a question before we say good night.
They are helped into bed and tucked in tight,
We read them a story then we kiss them so light.

Then several years pass and they are so much taller,
You look to your daughter to tell her she has a caller.
She leaps from the sofa and slides across the floor,
Then she tells you don't listen as she closes the door.

Your son comes down the stairs he looks like a drifter,
Wrinkled clothes that are to big and worn out slippers.
You shake your head and wonder about kids these days,
You laugh lightly thinking how you we're the same in ways.

Time passes on by and they are now in there late teens,
Your daughter comes in with a friend dressed like queens.
May we use the car tonight we're going to a party,
You tell her ok but 11 p.m and don't you be tardy.

They leave for the evening and your mind is at ease,
Your mate walks up quietly and starts to be a tease.
It's all good for the kids are out for the evening,
Your son comes home and shakes his head cool I'm leaving.

You both sit there and slightly chuckle at being caught,
But you still feel uncomfortable about what he sought.
Later in the night your daughter comes back home,
You look at the clock 10: 45 one down one still unknown.

Time passes by the clock moves so slow as they wait,
It's now been two days they are worried about his fate.
The police we're called they had placed the alerts,
He wore white sneakers old blue jeans and a blue shirt.

Another day comes and goes and they are scared with fear,
He is their only son and they hold him so loving and dear.
They wait and they cry another 2 days has passed on by,
Then the phone suddenly rings and they are scared to reply.

We have found your son he was located in Kansas city,
He went with some friends to there it's all such a pity.
Tears fill there eyes again knowing there son is dead,
But the police officer says relax that is not what i said.

Your son is alright he is not dead he is in the county jail,
He would like for his family to please come and post his bail.
Your son was arrested for dealing dope on the streets,
To raise money for a girls problem let me be discreet.

She is pregnant and he claims to be the one to blame,
He was trying to raise the money to cover their shame.
An abortion was set to be done this last Monday,
But he got arrested late on the evening of Sunday

They thank the officer and slowly hang up the phone,
Not really sure now if they want him to come home.
But he is there son and he has made some huge mistakes,
They will leave in an hour to help the two whatever it takes.

I can not complete this i leave it open right here,
If this was you what would you do other than shed tears.
Mistakes can be made nobody is immune from all this,
Just try to help them with some love and a kiss.
