Father Dear Poem by Janet Stewart

Father Dear

Father Dear
Father dear I waited for you to come for me
I lay awake for you to visit me
I waited and waited but to no avail
My eyes were tired my lids were heavy
They closed shut they were tired so
I woke up in the middle of the night
Looked outside my window
You were not there
All I could feel was the smell of sweet grass penetrating my nostrils like a cloud of smoke
The mango trees swayed in sequence back and forth one, back and forth one, two, three
My body swayed to the motion until I almost feel asleep
Then I tip toed across the drawing room entered the study
Opened the trap door and sprinted down the stairs
It was very dark but I was not scared
Because that was the last place where I saw you last
Which was so many years ago
I knelt and prayed that you will appear. But you never did
The next day I went to school feeling so sad, sad, and sad
I never saw you again.
Oh never ever.

this; sounds like what Shirley Temple might have said in one of her hit movies decades ago, if her father had left as yours did. in other words, i think this is very realistic; very childlike. it would make some readers cry i'm sure. i am too stoic? for crying, usually. i enjoyed this poem and will send it to MyPoemList. perhaps my favorite lines are these: All I could feel was the smell of sweet grass penetrating my nostrils like a cloud of smoke The mango trees swayed in sequence back and forth one, back and forth one, two, three thanks for sharing. any more poems? bri :)
