Few From It Make Money Poem by Francis Duggan

Few From It Make Money

Few from it make money and few from it know fame
For most penning of verse is a hungry belly game
And many great poets have died in poverty
Why this should be so ask one other than me
So many young writers to greatness aspire
But few out of life achieve what they desire
It is said out of life we receive what we are due
And count yourself lucky if your dream does come true
The dream of fame in most writers as they age lives on
And they keep on writing though their best days long gone
Their hobby or addiction or call it what you may
They never even do think of giving away
They never grow tired of writing though they grow old and gray
We are what we are as some are known to say.
