Fiend Poem by Aspen Georgia

Fiend

I look over at the dark corner, wondering who is over there
I call out to it, but no reply
I envy its secrecy
I stare into the darkness and smile
I know somebody is over there, I can see it.
It’s starring at me, judging me in every way
The shadowy figure laughs at my flaws and looks inside my inner soul
It stands as though mocking me
Yet I cannot resist but want this thing to approve of me.
I straighten my posture and suck in my stomach.
The figure is still reading me as though I was an elementary school book
It looks away as if I am not worth the time.
Angered at its disapproval I walk over to the corner and shine my light.
I want to make it feel the same it made me feel, self-conscience, stupid, a failure
I draw my light over to the figure, and what I see
what I see
is me
