Fighting The 'Good Fight' Poem by Robert Mahoney

Fighting The 'Good Fight'

Here we go again; another lie, another day gone by
Without you by my side
Every now and then, a mother cries, another child dies
Fighting the 'good fight'
just what the hell is the 'good fight' anyway?

Do you even know, do you even care?
What the hell you're fighting for?
So many lost to hypocrisy
As bullets and bombs dictate democracy
So much blood on your hands
And you don't even know
How could you know?

Here we go again; bullets tear through the midnight air
God, we're all so scared
Screaming on the wind, another night, another stolen life
Lost to the 'good fight'
Just what the hell is the 'good fight' anyway?

Do you even know, do you even care?
What the hell you're fighting for?
So many lost to hypocrisy
As bullets and bombs dictate democracy
So much blood on your hands
And you don't even know
How could you know?

Families torn apart for a greater good and a lesser god
And what do they have to show for their sacrifice?
Nothing but a bloodstained flag and a misspelled grave
The countless tears we've shed for the fallen brave
Sons and daughters shot down in a far off land
Shipped home in caskets bearing the colors
Of the country that sent them off to die

Do you even know, do you even care?
What the hell you're fighting for?
So many lost to hypocrisy
As bullets and bombs dictate democracy
So much blood on your hands
And you don't even know
How could you know?
You don't even know!
So we continue to fight
And we continue to die
Fighting the 'good fight'
