Today
we covered the pool,
formally ending
the summer.
We unplugged
the lights
strung through the bushes,
and stored the lamps
that bordered walkways,
but flowers still blossom
and birds still refresh
fluttering
in the birdbath.
Butterflies still sip nectar
from lantana,
but there’ll be no reflection
of autumn’s glowing colors,
because today
we covered the pool.
