Firefly Poem by Pearl L Johns

Firefly

Who are you young girl?
The girl who has stolen my son's heart?
I do not know you, but I am curious.
Are you like the hummingbird?
Full of energy, rapidly flapping her wings,
Your wings flapping so quickly that
they make the sound of a hum
As you search for the nectar of life.
Are you like the butterfly?
Metamorphized from a caterpillar
Into a colorful, graceful creatue
Folding and unfolding your wings
As you fly from flower to flower
As if to socialize.
Are you like the ladybug?
Colorful, but methodical
Guarding your garden of flowers and fruit.
Are you like the scissor-tail?
Perched high above everwatchful.
Determined, strong willed
Ready to protect whats yours at all costs.
I don't know which your are.
Perhaps you are none of these things.
Perhaps you are part of all of these things.
What I do know is this.
You have hair of red
And eyes of green.
You love your horse named Jess.
You like to read.
Your favorite color is purple.
And you have a special place inside a
certain green eyed boy's heart.
Whether it is a forever kind of love
Is way too early to tell.
But it is my boy's first love
And that makes you special to me.
For now I will call you Firefly.
For the red hair that shines like fire in the golden sunlight.
And for the light in my son's eyes and in his face
When he talks of you.
Hello Firefly.
How are you today?
