Five Faces Poem by Audrey Ugrin

Five Faces

Stunned and silent
is where you will begin,
thinking you'll be fine
His approval wasn't needed
to ensure your happiness
anyway

An independent woman

From underneath rises
the emotion you had squelched
for so long
Shake your fist now
Shout for the injustice
He deserves it

An angered woman

Maybe it's not over
you think
An error could have been made
Repairable with a bit of love
and a dollop of time
Maybe he will come back

An anxious woman

Silence, bitterness
It was all your fault
Could you really not seen this coming
and stop the proverbial train in its tracks
before your hypothetical love was killed?
You did this
An indictable woman

Silent again
but this time by choice
You know you will be alright
The honest appraisal
has found its way to the light
and he remains in the darkness

An empowered woman
