Flee From The Demons Poem by James Chung

Flee From The Demons

A rising shadow.
A splash of water.
Big, innocent eyes.
A carefree noise made in the back of its throat.
A laugh?
Glistening with unshed water droplets on its fur.
An otter.
A mysterious creature.
To be able to dive in the dark blue abyss at a moment’s notice.
With a power like that, I would hide.
Hide from the demons.
It flees, the only thing it knows how to do.
Not to fight.
To play.
A peaceful creature, perhaps.
An odd entity.
A symbol of peace and innocence.
Something that I myself am not.
I wish to be an otter.
To make the same carefree noise that I have long forgotten.
To flee into the dark abyss.
Where no demon can find me.
