Flooded With Mistakes Poem by Ryan Holmes

Flooded With Mistakes

I don’t sleep at night anymore.
I just lie there, thinking of her.
Lost opportunity, closed doors.
What ever you call it, it hurts.
My eyes, flooded with mistakes.
Blink and tears rush down my face
And stain my pillow.

I’ve living nightmares at these times;
Trapped under my blanket,
With nowhere to go.
I love her, yet she’ll not be mine,
But I’ve no sin in which to repent.
Just foolish chance and dismal timing.
I didn’t seize her, so she went
Into his arms, and with my blessing.

Of course a hollow consent,
But what else could I do?
Tell her no!
I’ve loved you from the first day we met!
Yet I don’t enlighten her with this truth,
And that’s why I’m ‘lone,
And I’m in the dark.
My room, sleeping not.
She’s gone, and with my heart,
While I lay here and I rot
