Footprints Poem by Shayna O'Connell

Footprints

Along the desolent, beach shores
lies a single set of footprints
In the dead of night invisible
in the heat of day clear as ever.
Beside them lay relaxing waves
beating against the sand like
the heart of the ocean.

The footprints lead to a woman
who just had her heart broken
she's looking out at the ocean
feeling isolated and alone.
As thoughts of her ex fill her mind
she tries forgetting them but can't.

A single tear hits the soft, beach sand
as she takes one last glance
out at the open water.
A serene feeling overwhelms her
as she walks away following
her single set of footprints.
