For Bimbo - Poem by Anthony Stafford

oh bimbo, bimbo running free
bright button eyes, a joy to see
with pricked up ears, a scent to smell
a shiny coat, you looked so well

but suddenly you are no more
no bark or whine or scratch at door
no lick, no yawn, no sympathy
no sleepy head upon my knee

now when I walk, you are not there
the other dogs don't seem to care
but are you somewhere I can't see
dear bimbo, bimbo running free
