For Fathers And My Fathers... Poem by Bruce Vanizy

For Fathers And My Fathers...

You taught me well;
You taught me well,
My father you have taught me well,

Like a bird building a nest,
You taught me how;
You taught me why,
You taught me what not to feel in my chest,

You taught,
To others i should not be a pest,
But invite them over, as though they had been our yesterday guests,
You taught even if the world is at its end,
I should not give it time to rest,
Rather work hard and do my best,
Even when the sun sets to the far west...
I should work hard, and in return i will be blessed.

Like the blade of a swordsman,
You have sharpened my mind,
Like the heart and thunder of a fearless lion,
I am strong, by body, mind and soul,
Like the love from simple lovers with a story to tell,
You have given me more than what is required,
I, as your son, i, as a man, i, as who i am,
I am thankful for who you are, and what you have done.

I thank you my father for your wisdom,
I am sure in time i will join yours and my fathers kingdom,
You said spirituality is important,
With that, i should keep it constant,
With or without entering different formats,
Even for houses with different door mats or floor mats,
I should keep this dogma,
With pride and honor.

You taught,
It never is, about easy,
So i should not at one time, feel sleepy,
Never should i feel tired,
Walk on to a never tomorrow,
Because the time that i have on earth, is borrowed,
Even if it seems that i am being followed,
By things that might pull my heart and will down...
I should not frown,
Only place victory, place victory as an effortless crown.
