For Some This Is Destined Poem by Francis Duggan

For Some This Is Destined

For some this is destined to be the last day
Tomorrow before sunrise in the dawning gray
They won't hear the birds whistle on bush and on tree
A last day and night for everyone as well as for me
Where new forms of life do grow out of decay
In the dark bosom of Nature to forever lay
I feel glad to be living for to see one more Spring
The great gift of life is a marvellous thing
A few years more for a woman than for a man
Three score and ten on average not a lengthy span
Of time for to live the clock ticks on and on
On looking back we wonder at how fast time has gone
To any sort of feelings he does seem quite cold
The egalatarian reaper takes the young and the old
