Freindship Poem by Joseph Henry Gaines

Freindship

Friendship
A friend in need is a friend indeed?
What does that really mean?
I don't know what it means.
In my language, a friend is someone who you value and trust
You don't rely on each other; you have mutual feelings because you have mutual things in common
So many things muddy the rivers, so many things fall between
But with me I see through all that, if you can't see my heart then you don't deserve me
For as your friend I will never let you down, I will stand there till the end.
I will challenge Lucifer and question God for my value of you
Only your betrayal can get rid of me, not your character or your failings
You lie to me and you lose me
You lose me and you lose something which only souls can understand
I stand there naked, stand before you with only my heart
It's easy to fell me, take your piece of flesh, and rip your candid victory
But when all is said and done you have lost yourself
You have devoured that part of you which was true
I won't be bitter, I won't be angry, I will smile and forgive you
For my love for you was pure, it was true and that had no rules
I am true, a soul that just wanted to be your friend
If it didn't work out then thank god for the time I spent with you
It blessed me; it made me more of the person I am
My love and my loyalty is always there
It is just not for you anymore my friend
Let me be your rock if that makes you feel better
Smash yourself against me if that is what you need
For if that is what it is, then my part of your friend has been paid in full.
