Friendship Poem by Emillie DeVere

Friendship

I walk alone
Down a dark, empty street
There’s no light left in me
The lanterns extinguished
I don’t belong here
I am a stranger
I’ve come so far
I didn’t stop
I saw you once
It gave me strength to keep going
My faith
That’s all I have left
I’m losing it slowly
It’s fading away
I’m becoming transparent
My colour is washed
Drowned in the tears
I never shed
I never knew magic like this
I never knew hope shines in me
I never knew that dreams do come true
That’s all because I never knew you
I’m not alone
Not anymore
You are with me
You hold my hand
I won’t get lost
You’re here to guide me
Towards the stars
We’ll jump on the moon
We’ll sleep in the feathery clouds
We’ll eat the Milky Way
We’ll fly among the planets
Gravity won’t pull us down
Nothing can tear us apart
We’re linked by the strongest thread
A human has ever known…
a thread unbreakable, unscarred, and eternal -
Friendship

Now those are the lines I love best, 'Towards the stars / We’ll jump on the moon / We’ll sleep in the feathery clouds / We’ll eat the Milky Way / We’ll fly among the planets / Gravity won’t pull us down / Nothing can tear us apart / We’re linked by the strongest thread / A human has ever known… / a thread unbreakable, unscarred, and eternal - / Friendship.'
