From The Day We Are Born Poem by Francis Duggan

From The Day We Are Born

From the day we are born until the day we die it's uphill all of the way
And success only for those who try hard some have been known to say
Though I've known people who have worked hard for to raise their family
And in their old age sad to say they live almost in poverty.

I am not seen as a success yet I know how to survive
Financially one seen as poor though I'm still very much alive
And some very wealthy people of my age to the Grim Reaper have gone
I must be very lucky after all for I'm still living on.

From the day we are born until the day we die we know of joy and tears
And the longest human life in time not long a century of years
The Reaper who claims everyone he will claim you and I
And the longer that we live they say the sooner we will die.

From the day we are born till the day we die the roads of life uphill
We have our problems and our cares till the heart in us is still
But when many talk about the soul they don't talk of mortality
Though I would rather not return to live again one life enough for me.
