Funny
"It's just a rough draft, "
he said with a laugh
but the joke is half epitaph.
I know I'll regret it
this helping him edit
his thesis, this knife,
that will cut through my life.
Somehow, it's become real
this part of the deal
where my dear Dr. Peter
will vamoose from our theater
where I've acted like I could go on
when I return next year, and he's gone.
Too bad for readers of this poem if they don't know the poetic record of your relationship with the future 'Dr.'. five stars. Have your 'girlfriends' at Yale sounded off on this issue? bri ;)
It almost sounds as though you and Peter hadn't talked about having a future TOGETHER. It sounds like YOU would like such a future, or am I overreacting? Maybe all of your poems are fictional; I doubt it.
We've talked about our situation. I'm far behind him university wise but I knew that going in. All I know is that I have 10 years of school left. We'll see.
The last stanza [IS it the LAST? ] is very introspective [a word I don't think I've ever spoken or written]. Tying 'theater' to 'acted' is a nice touch.
I really liked the theater/actor pairing - I'm glad you liked it =]
My, my, this sounds SERIOUS and NOT funny at all. Maybe you should propose (marriage....between him and you) to him? ? ?
