Gallows Poem by Rose Marie Cook

Gallows

Mighty and strong
Where necks are hung
Punished by death
Lives turned into wrecks

Children watch
Horror in their eyes
Bodies swing
While families cry

Wooden steps
Creak in silence
The death announced
Souls within the gallows

Ropes are tied
Doors drop
Whispers heard
Silence stops

Sreams all around
People cry
Knees hit the ground
Prayers sigh

The lost souls
Cry out
Hidden within the shadows
Are the souls of the gallows
