Gargoyle Poem by Michele Burstein

Gargoyle

On rampart
Silence
Throbs.
Tight-skinned drum
Unstruck.

Such luck
The craggy form
Ugly beautiful
Thunders
Its deafening protection
Raven-black
As it waits
Poised and still

It will
Succeed
No evil spirit
Dare come near
In the death-still
Sleep
Of night.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I love gargoyles and the myth behind their status as protectors against evil spirits. Poem happened one day after seeing an amazing pair of gargoyles on a semi ruined church.
