Geting On In Years Poem by Philip Holdredge

Geting On In Years

Are you just passing by
Or do you plan to stay awhile?
And, just who are you anyway
pulling me out of an empty belly deep sleep?
Next thing you know the phone will ring and
I'll be throwing off my covers to rush off across the frozen
ten feet or so to reach the beast just to answer a recorded message
concerning a no strings attached digital kick starter in the event
I forget to breathe. For only $29.99 a month they will keep me hooked up to it for the duration. And for an additional $9.99 they will include a recorded eulogy read by a comedian of my choice.
'Good morning to you, good morning to you
we're all in our places, la te da...ha ha ha.'
Naturally I am not in stitches over this.
So I will ask again.
Are you just passing by
or do you plan to stay awhile...and just who are you anyway? '
