Ghost At Twelve O’ Clock Poem by Ramesh Iyengar

Ghost At Twelve O’ Clock

Ghost at Twelve O’ Clock

Mother used to say:
Don’t wake up late night. Never open door.
Seldom peep through window.
Fill your stomach, sleep.
White ghost comes at 12 O ’ clock,
catches young boys. Eats them.
‘Why not girls? ’ came my innocent question.
No answers from amma.
Prayer to God hanging on the wall,
went to bed we…..
At 46, I see, police patrol night’s streets.
Coolies return home late. Beggars everywhere.
Through the window, I look for ghosts to come.
