Giraffe And The Hippo Poem by Ashleigh Michaud

Giraffe And The Hippo

Rating: 2.8

Larami loved his spots;
He thought he was a leopard.
Little did he know that they weren’t spots;
But tiny brown homes.
And in the homes lived hippos.
One hippo was Queen Hippolyta.
Her skin covered in jade jewels
And her skin smooth as ivory.
Larami was in love with Hippolyta;
But she had no clue who he was.
One day he tripped over a tree branch
And tried to keep balance so that he wouldn’t hurt her.
But fell he did and she came toppling out of her home
Onto to the ground.
She looked at him then and a huge smile took up her face.
His eyes lit up and he reflected the grin.
He bent his long neck down and she walked up his face
And onto his home-spotted back.
There she sat for the rest of their lives,
Happily in love.

I wouldn't call it weird, but it's hard to comprehend how hippos lived in the spots of a giraffe. Perhaps a note from the poet could explain this. The poem's user rating,4.5 from just 2 voters, seemed to me to be far below of what it deserves. I gave it 8/10. Though I did not understand fully what the poem meant, yet I liked it because: Unlike many pieces in this forum, it looks like a poem. It is well structured with proper punctuation. It has a story to tell, however fanciful, that is perhaps allegorical to the poet's philosophy of life. It ends on a happy note. Best wishes for a happy journey down the road.
