Given A Baton Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Given A Baton

Each day,
It continues to be proven.
One given a baton to lead,
The potential of a great parade.
Crowds have gathered around,
With fingers crossed...
In the hope they will see.
Their picked leader,
Stepping tall and bold.
Proud to be in this position,
Few are picked...
To behold and be bestowed.

Although. Instead.
Rubbing their foreheads,
Each day to display their dismay.
The people observe their leader picked,
Preferring to open another can of worms.
Seeking anywhere to start a conflict.
Just to please an ego.
And the attention this gets.
Like a spoiled undisciplined child would do.
Over the slightest but to heighten...
Pettiness.
That embarrasses the World,
Watching a leader like this gloat over it!
