Glass Eyes Poem by William Davids

Glass Eyes

Screaming out through blood stained tears behind these eyes of glass
Smashing hands against the panes praying that it’s my last,
Must see past this lifeless gaze, see what lies beneath,
This battered soul, this forgotten dream,
Of the man I should have been.
Chased through the labyrinths of my mind, where Dante would fear to tread,
The empty, ever-hopeful heart tearing from within.

The understanding that something’s wrong, has been there from the start,
It has been too long and I’m tired to stop it falling apart.
The great debacle, the inside joke, that I want to change,
To be anyone other than who I am would just be wrong and strange.

Crimson waves replace the sea,
And their soothing tides wash over me,
The drum beats harder and the pulse flows quicker
The next unsuspecting victim of this unholy big hitter
