Good Friends Are Rare, Love's Rarer Still! Poem by Long Tooth

Good Friends Are Rare, Love's Rarer Still!

Good friends are rare, are rarely known outside of family:
commitment's lacking; expectations fade as if a fire dies down.

Some women sacrifice all dreams to dream a child will come,
emotions hint there's nothing that might matter more (for life's a rout!)
Though man's a useful nuisance, pays most bills, drinks beer, most die
before she will. Men leave, chase skirts, lose jobs, flaunt rules, draw shortest straws.
But child embraced helps mom embrace life's best retirement plan!

Most men will trust her child is his, child's name's the life of Clan.
He follows food; she follows him, his trade, the game, the times, 'God's laws.'
Man risks the world, wives man their home! While wives must wait, men try
to rally others to their cause; they work the land, find game about.
I'd be your friend, to wife friend too, to Love (this makes me dumb?) .

Did Christ cheat cross or die for us? In faith, let Grace then quench your frown,
for rarest Love the world has known, though rare, Christ gives to thee!
