The bagpipes were playing for James
It was our way of saying goodbye
Family and friends were gathered
And many folks needed to cry
His wife was given the flag
James was a veteran, you know
Her heart was filled with sorrow
For she loves her husband so
Family gathered for the custom
Of sharing a meal afterward
It’s a time to spend together
Passing on memories unheard
And then came a new engagement
For you see, time continues to march on
A fresh loving couple emerges
For they too, have a love that is strong
The smell of fried chicken tells us
We have to continue to eat
So everyone fills their plates
Yes, a tradition once again we repeat
And of course tomorrow will come
Everyday life will continue
We whisper our thoughts up to heaven
James, we will always love you!
