Hallucinations Poem by Alex Garr

Hallucinations

Swirling chaos,
Vast chasm of nothingness.
Colors and lights flicker into
Existence: blood red and lightning blue,
Pale white and empty black.

And from the void
Shines a glowing eye,
Red with anger.
It swims forward as
Spindly black legs surround the
Eye. In moments, a
Beast-like being encircles
The boundaries of my mind.

The Beast’s legs,
Like a mechanical spider’s,
Twitch,
Waiting...

Without warning the Beast
Attacks. Its legs stab into
My conscious. All thoughts
Of escape vanish,
Wiped away with a lazy flick of the
Beast’s mind and replaced
With fiery pain.

I try to fight back,
But my thoughts are
A muddled mess.
The Beast moves
Forward, closing in
On my exposed and
Weakening conscious.

And then, when all hope
Seemed lost, a light of order
And discipline breaks through
The chaos.
A man who calls himself Bill
Hands me a book
That holds the secret to the
Beast’s downfall.

As I take hold of the black book,
The Beast begins to disperse.
As my mind clears
And the pain vanishes,
Tears of joy stream down my face.
