Hand In Hand Poem by Aria Quimby

Hand In Hand

There was a time
When they could walk
Hand in hand
With that boy
Her best friend
Her other half
And no one
Would criticize
Or laugh
Or snicker

But now
Things have changed
To walk
Hand in hand
With a boy
As a girl
Would get nothing
But weird glares
And that one
Annoying question

Everyone knows
That question
Which brings dread
To girls like her
Tears friendships apart
Pulls the line across
Separating the boy
From the girl

Leaving her alone
To fend for herself
With no one
But herself
To protect her
