Hangover In The Sunshine Poem by georgios andritsos

Hangover In The Sunshine

the sun shines on my
hangover head.
I´ m sprawled in an easy chair
at a terrace of a building
wedged between
other terraces
other buildings.
my middle-aged body aches
my mind is scattered.
I drink from my drink, and
I face the ancient star.
my eyes burn
my eyes squint
I close them
diluted darkness.
I hear a couple quarrelling in Spanish
a dog barks in the distance.
I catch a whiff of burned coal
my stomach growls.
I open my eyes;
a seagull flies high above my
hangover head,
the hit pushes hard on me
the wind blows in gusts
clothes on stretched ropes
flap like flags.
white clouds drift by
loaded with dreams.
men are born
men die.
what difference does it make
when you have
hangover in the sunshine?
