Happiness: The Price We Pay Poem by Bernadeth Tolentino

Happiness: The Price We Pay

Happiness and diamonds are akin
To obtain them is out of the question.
They’re hard to find, impossible to win.
They’re sometimes real but more an illusion.

And once we have them, they’re simple to lose
A tiny word is all it really takes.
Blind are we, right in front of us are clues
Of how to keep them, still often they break.

Once seized, more emotions are acquired
Emotions like beasts; making us cower.
Holding on can only make us tired
Sweet happiness can only turn sour.

But the price we pay, we’ll pay whenever,
Happiness, like gems, are worth endeavor
