Another sacred day has come at last,
A day of rituals keeping with the past;
Another day to celebrate this year,
With kith and kin and friends away, and near.
In Tamil Nadu, Life has not been good
Because of drought and scarcity of food;
The current-cuts destroy many a home,
But doles by government are so much welcome!
The world is caught in recession again;
There has been often failure of good rain;
The dams are dry and fields are parched, crop-less;
The year that was was gloomy and hopeless!
But things can’t stay for long this way, we know;
Our prayers will invoke God’s kindness more;
The state of Tamils will improve with time,
As better changes come upon the clime.
May clouds pour down the rain, our farmers need;
May prosperity come to soil and seed;
May smiles and laughter fill all house-holds soon;
May drought and money-crunch become a boon!
May Tamils globally be happier still;
May godliness and love in their hearts fill;
May flora, fauna clothe the land again;
May God bestow the much-needed good rain!
A Happy Tamil New Year wish to all;
Unity ushers peace – the clarion call;
Let’s do away with every kind of wall;
We must get up and walk although we fall!
