Hara Kiri England Poem by Chris Higginson

Hara Kiri England

The men returned from World War Two
With dreams of change, well you would too
They’d fought for King and Red White Blue
You’d think we’d know just what to do

We booted out the Tory Blue
And voted in the Reddish Hue
But what then happened to the ‘Few’
Upon whom hinged the future true

It seems that most, they emigrated
To countries where they then placated
The Natives, who they educated
‘Til England turned and made them hated

The ones in ‘Indiah’ ran away
The Mau Mau did the Kenyans slay
Rhodesians said, “No chance, No way! ”
And stood against this Bulldog play

They fought against the world opinion
For right to vote against Dominion
To not be ruled by Labour minion
Who’d squander futures by the million

Hist’ry says Brits gave away
Our Commonwealth just yesterday
What have we gained? Did we betray
Our future for some ‘gain’ today?

So what’s the record since the War?
The Mines and Dockyards are no more
The Jobs have gone to Bangalore
The Cash has gone to Singapore

And then to kill Old England dead
Ensuring that tradition’s bled
We let in people who have fled
The countries that were underfed

The Independence that they gained
For so called Freedom from being chained
Has backfired now, but who is blamed?
Not the ones who then campaigned!

Aliens now it seems outnumber
The Brits who’re cleared like forest lumber
How long will now the Bulldog slumber
Being shafted by a black cucumber

This once proud nation in demise
Has made the World its acts despise
I wait agog for sane replies
To questions that I improvise

Where’s the future of this land
When will the people make a stand
Against the self destruction planned
By enemies who should be banned

Who are these ones that I accuse
Of taking over while we snooze
Then with control will try abuse
Our future ‘til we’re sure to lose

They’re the ones with ‘good intent’
Who stand for votes to represent
Us, and then they circumvent
Their promises! Do they repent?

They promise change from what before
Was sacrosanct and was The Law
By doing things that I deplore
To keep in power, and what’s more

They say we need no constitution
That they will choose our evolution
The time will come when retribution
Will stalk the land with revolution

Discipline in schools has vanished
Exams and tests are to be banished
Bad behaviour goes unpunished
Code and morals nearly finished

Thieves have got more ‘rights’ than those
Victims they subdue with blows
‘Greed’ and ‘Debt’ and ‘Envy’ grows
‘Principle’ in last death throes

Where is Courage? Where Devotion?
Where has gone that proud emotion
That once stood tall across the Ocean
But now replaced by self promotion

Once Winston said “We owe the Few”
The soldiers and the ones that flew
Would they have fought if then they knew
What legacy they left us to?

2nd Provocative Verse
