He Winked His Eye Poem by Joyce Hemsley

He Winked His Eye

The sky was suddenly overcast
With little birds, north-eastward bound.
High in flight and travelling so fast
There was silence ~ not one sound.
When suddenly the dark sky cleared
And peace once more I found...
The cloud of birds had disappeared
But one tiny fledgling fell to the ground
Then settled sweetly upon my tree.
He sat on a branch as close as could be
And I swear 'he winked his eye at me'.
