Heartbeat Poem by Andrus Cassian

Heartbeat

What's the sound
filling the air
What's the sound
mimicking a beating drum so softly
Reminds me of a steady rhythm
like the beat
of a song
slowly being put into play
Is it only inside my ears
or am I just hearing things
for as I walk farther and faster
to a precious someone so familiar
Wait, how does the sound know her name
The sound echos inside my mind
and whispers her name
in a mellow drumming
I've been acquainted with
too many times before
Hello again my heartbeat
like a gong, it's ringing louder and louder
my heartbeat
stronger than ever
a Secondhand Serenade in progress I guess
I don't know it well yet
but my hopes are butterflies in there
The girl of my dreams
maybe I've found her
maybe I've found my own explanation
of this perfect painted portrait
glistening in mimic sunlight
Could it honestly be a reflection of my life
