Hellen Keller

Hellen Keller!

You have been the role model

For millions of people

You set the example and showed a way

For people of impaired vision, deafness or muted

By your undying and incredible courage

You fought mountains of obstacles

And scripted a success story, that was unheard of.

You were born in Tuscumbia, Alabama

to mother Catherine Adams Keller

and fatherArthur Henry Keller on 27th June, in the year eighteen eighty

But who knew you would become deaf and blind

At the age of nineteen months, falling sick to an unknown disease!

But, your meeting with Anne Sulevan, changed the course of your life

As she became your teacher and guide

She taught you by drawing letters on your hand

By giving you the feel of water under a tap

She taught you to spell the first word

From sign language to written words

and then to spoken language

Your journey was incredulous

You rose to touch new heights

By becoming the first Bachelor of Arts

As a deaf and blind person in human history

You became a prolific writer, lecturer and political activist

You entered the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame

As well as Alabama Women Writers Hall of Fame.

You scripted history, you lighted lamps in the darkness

And proved that nothing is impossible

And when there is a will, there is a way!

Well done, Bharati! I have always admired and marveled at the story of Helen Keller. Perhaps the real hero, however, is her teacher, Anne Sullivan. How did Anne ever manage to do what she did?

(Part-2) This is particularly so because there was no methods available to teach deaf, dumb and blind child. We must salute those great souls who have really contributed for the betterment of humanity!
