Her Soldier Poem by Kate Rob

Her Soldier

He takes one more glance back,
To where his wife awaits.

Before he sets out with his pack,
Down the path and out the gate.

He sees her dress blowing in the morning breeze,
And in his mind he is praying, oh please God, please,

Keep her safe and keep her warm,
I may not return and that is sworn.

He turns, and with a silent tear,
Into the distance he disappears

He kneels in a trench, on the battle ground,
Bombshells exploding all around.

A bullet plunges into his chest,
Which sends him to his eternal rest.

He falls upon the blood-splattered ground,
Where he will be forever bound.

He was one of many great men who died,
And their deaths are not yet justified.

We benefit from their sacrifice,
Freedom and peace, they paid the price.

We remember the ones under our feet.
The ones who died in the foes defeat.

Now on top of their eternal home,
Each year, poppies, there have grown.
