Heroes Of New York Poem by Sam Edison

Heroes Of New York

Rating: 1.0

As you sailed across the Atlantic you heard the banshees howl
The sound of children crying their parents are lifeless smelling foul
Throwing the bodies of friends and family overboard buried in the sea
You left behind the famine now your hungry on a long journey
Finally you see her her torch illuminating all of space
Her name is Lady Liberty and she brought a smile to your face
You wait upon the island finally they change your name
And now you are American and life will never be the same
You rent a room on Mott street living among the cities worst
They never fail to call you names you walk by and get cursed
Sometimes they threw rocks you had no aid from the cops
You still held your head up high and worked built skyscrapers on those blocks
You built the bridges connecting all dug tunnels for the subway
You built this city became firemen and cops keeping everyone safe
And still they didnt appreciate you laughing in your face
They made fun of your religion your accent as you built there home
So many of you together yet you always felt alone
You're the heroes of this city this country and of the new world
Before you there was only farms desolate and empty
