Those who hide from
visiting slaughterhouses
who turn away their eyes
are less likely to prevent
suffering
than those who film
the cruelty and lies

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Andrew Jacobs, who represented Indianapolis in the House:
'Many love the meat, but few go to the slaughterhouse.'
Jacobs recounted that he quoted this several times about Vietnam
and decided to become a vegetarian.It was visiting an abbatoir in France that made Van Gogh become vegetarian.
