Highway 14 Poem by Doug Gunderson

Highway 14

Highway Fourteen leads to Yellowstone
I’m reminded all of the time,
Hop in the car and head out west
And get me some peace of mind.
Just you and me, in the car
With a day’s full journey ahead
No place I would rather be,
No person whom I’d have instead.
They say that life is a journey
More so than a destination.
And getting to a goal with you
is cause for my elation.
Be it four hours or forty years
No matter which direction
With you I know I’m moving forward
And feel a strong connection.
So when the bumps and detours come
I know we can work it out.
For being with the ones you love
Is what this journey’s all about.
When frustration rears its head
And despair comes into view
I’ll be there to help you out.
I know just the thing to do.
Grab a cooler and change of clothes
And meet me in the car;
‘cause fourteen leads to Yellowstone
And it’s really not that far.
