His Written Last Goodbyes Poem by Francis Duggan

His Written Last Goodbyes

As she sat in her car's driver's seat reading his farewell letter to her she wept her heartfelt tears
The man she love had left her life she had lived with him for five years
He left her for another a few weeks back in the first week of the Fall
And only memories of the love she knew are with her to recall,
She could not give him a son or daughter so with her he did not stay
Some men need to prove their manhood though not all men are that way
Without the great love of her life she will grow old and gray
Though love again may come to her in a not too distant day
Those without their life crosses to say the least are rare
And the cross of the love forsaken is her cross in life to bear
The only man she ever loved did not make her his wife
He left her for another such are the ways of life
As she sat reading his letter the tears flowed from her eyes
She felt overcome with sadness at his written last goodbyes.
