Hold On To The Light Poem by Jacques Johan Swart

Hold On To The Light

Darkness rose from the ground
Faceless beings stood around
Wielding daggers of despair
Slashing and bagging without a care

Inner demons laughed at us
As our sacredness was being crushed
We could not fight, we didn't dare
We simply stood helpless, in a saddened stare

Children cried out for love
Holding on to the feeble hope of a white dove
It would not come today
No mercy will come our way

Some hid in a flickering light
Picked off in a synchronized delight
Darkness is what they crave
It is where we will be enslaved

They tortured us with light
Randomly appearing, within touch, within sight
A devious plan to drain our hope
Taking our life force by the throat

Happiness seems distant now
The world dead at least for now
